My villanelle styled poem for Martin (RIP): Martin. Dear friends say goodbye for him all right? For when he wakes, he’ll never wake again; It’s time to sleep his long unending night. So, you see, he's stepped into the blinding bright, And put aside Life's final pain; Dear friends say goodbye for him, all right? But what is life, if not a dream so trite? Over and over, and almost insane; It’s time to sleep his long unending night. And in a way, he fought and beat Life's brutal fight, Magic, playful, a beautifully strategic brain; Dear friends say goodbye for him, all right? I’ll miss his sky so blue, his clouds so white, His lands, his seas, his silver rain. It’s time to sleep his long unending night.
